I should probably know this by now but it never really bothered me until recently. Is there a way to change the order of your characters to your own personal order rather than the 2 choices they give you? (Alphabetic or Pvp/Pve).

Nope they didn't implement such a feature (aside from the random shuffle that sometimes happens when you delete/create a character).

I submitted a ticket about this about a year ago and got a "sorry, no can do".

Why would this be needed in the first place? It takes a maximum of 3 seconds to find and click the character you want.
I personally just hit the arrow keys a few times and look at names, then hit enter. Faster than waiting for character images to load so it takes less than a second.

Why do some people feel they need to ask why someone would ask a question?

Because 3 seconds x 20 over the course of a gaming evening yields a precious minute to call a girlfriend to say you love her and buy the relationship another day.
